Parent Consultations

All of our providers work very closely with parents to communicate how their child is doing in therapy, and to discuss ways to support their child's growth and progress at home. We deeply believe in parents as the experts on their child(ren) and embrace a collaborative approach in working with children and their families. We pride ourselves on the quality and dependability of our communication and make meeting with parents a regular part of the child's therapeutic process.

Family Sessions

Family therapy focuses on the roles and dynamics within a family and on improvement in relationships among family members. The goal is to help family members understand each other, support each other, and work through difficult situations.

We often find that with family therapy, negative beliefs, patterns and feedback loops can be changed, resulting in more positive beliefs and experiences, and creating deep relief and lasting change within the family system.  We tailor family therapy to meet each family's needs and utilize a variety of expressive arts modalities in family work.

Here at Wholesome Healing, we offer several forms of evidence-based family focused therapies, including Filial Family Therapy (FFT), Child-Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT), and Theraplay®Therapists work closely with families to identify and provide the approach that will be most appropriate for each child and family's unique needs.

Parenting Programs

Parenting Intense Kids (PIK) is an 8-week program created by Bethany Taylor and Vanessa Keller, who worked hard to create a program to address the needs and struggles of families with intense kids.

Not only was this program created from clinical experience, data, and knowledge... but it was also created from the lived experiences of having been an intense kid (Bethany) and parenting an intense kid (Vanessa). This program is what they wish they'd had.... what they wish their parents would have had. â€‹

Parenting an intense or sensitive child can feel overwhelming, exhausting, and lonely. This 8-week program is designed to give parents practical tools, renewed confidence, and a deeper connection with their child.

Parents learn to:

- Assess the basic needs of their child and family in 6 core areas of focus

(Communication, Boundaries, Nutrition, Transitions, Regulation/Sensory Needs, & Sleep)

- Adjust where needed to create balance and consistency

- Create their own model for a foundation of connection and stability

- Intentionally balance freedom and structure to create a neuroception of safety

- Feel more empowered about how to respond to their child

- Experience more joy in parenting

Group Sessions run every 8 weeks

Don't just take it from us though, see what parents have to say about our Parenting Intense Kids Program!

Wholesome Healing Room.jpg

This program is like the capstone course of a major field of study but completely un- intimidating and fully applicable - all wrapped up in a cozy warm hug.

Most important, and completely unexpected, was the fact that they made us moms feel fully seen, valued, and held space for us as individuals. It was such a warm and gentle environment - a true contrast to my daily life for the past decade. They took time to slow down and meet us where we were at and gently guide us through this information all the while building us up and teaching self compassion.

The fact that this class was a group environment was so important. I was hesitant at first to really explore more vulnerable topics that came up but finding moms who truly get it and are in the trenches with you is a completely underrated and undervalued part of supporting an intense child (and parent!).

If you’re thinking this isn’t for you because your kid is way more than “intense” - this program IS for you. It’s the real deal for those of us in the daily battles that we are afraid to tell anyone about, and that we water down when we share with friends and family. These practitioners really get it and this program REALLY helps.

I previously signed up for and attended any training and class I could to try and better understand my intense kid over the past decade. This one summed up years of searching and thousands upon thousands of dollars of therapies and consults.
