Pre-Teen & Teen Therapy

 

​​Adolescents are faced with a variety of challenges in today’s world that may impact how they feel about themselves, their relationships, and their overall mental health. We strive to help make things feel more manageable for both parents and teens as they navigate what can be a tough developmental period.

At Wholesome Healing, we offer counseling services to preteens and teens using both traditional talk therapy and expressive arts therapies, depending on the specific needs of the adolescent. 

 

We utilize a variety of expressive arts modalities in working with pre-teens and teens. Therapy utilizing art, sand tray, movement, and sensory-based experiences promotes whole-brain reparation and integration. Unlike verbal therapy which relies mostly on left-brain function, engaging in any arts-based activity uses many parts of the brain. This allows for deeper work and more significant and long-lasting improvements in social, emotional, behavioral, and relational functioning. Providing a variety of materials to use and explore also provides distance and safety that may be helpful when discussing tough feelings and painful thoughts.

What to Expect

 

​The standard therapeutic hour for pre-teen and teen sessions are typically 45 - 50 minutes.
